When you type a word in all caps by itself why does it appear in lowercase?

When I type just one word in a post in all caps it gets put in lowercase. The next post in this thread will be typed in all caps.

I used "Quick Reply" to post the 2nd post. I am using the "Post Reply" button to post the next post all in caps to see if there is a difference.

I'm going to try posting a whole sentence in caps. Both sentences in this post have been posted in all caps.

all kidding aside the real reason is you have to have atleast one letter in your post as normal size. The whole post cant be caps.

I've learned that this is a feature on vBulletin boards that is used to prevent "shouting". Useless feature, imo.
